EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- A vacant house in south-central El Paso has been destroyed after an early morning fire.

El Paso Fire Department said it happened at 1213 E. Overland Ave. around 12:30 a.m.

Spokesperson Enrique Dueñas said there was no one inside the residence and no reported injuries.

He also states there was a partial collapse inside the home.

The fire did not spread to other homes in the area.

Fire crews are monitoring for hotspots.

Fire investigators were called out to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.

Update (September 5, 2024): Police just identified the person who died as 93-year-old Chihuahua resident Jesus Roman Villezcas Carrazco.

Police say that the red Mercedes was traveling east when it hit the back of the back of the mini van Villezcas was traveling in. Both cars hit concrete barriers then caught fire and Villezcas was unable to exit the car, police say. He died at the scene.

Police say the investigation into the crash is still ongoing.

This is this is the 40th traffic fatality this year, compared to 53 this time last year.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- One person is dead and three others injured after a crash, early Friday Morning.

It's happening on I-10 east at Redd Rd.

Police dispatch say the call came in past 1 a.m.

El Paso Fire Department say one person suffered serious injuries, while two others suffered minor to moderate injuries.

Patients were transported to University Medical Center.

They also confirm that one person has died.

Currently, all lanes on I-10 east have been closed.

Update: In a news conference Thursday, U.S. Attorney General for the Western District of Texas Jaime Esparza, said 21 people with connections to the 'Chuco Tango' gang were arrested in a roundup spanning El Paso today.

Officials said the arrested individuals are suspected of serious drug and firearm offenses.

They are charged with possession, and intent to distribute cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl. 

The investigation was led by the DEA, FBI, and ATF, it started in November of 2023. 

After the arrests, FBI officials said they were processed at the El Paso County Coliseum.

While 21 were arrested, police say four fugitives remain at large. They are Jonathan Blanco, Jessica Rodarte, Carlos Flores, and Adriel Belmont.

Officials said some of the defendants in the operation were indicted both in federal and in state court.

"Regarding the charges of those that were apprehended today, several have been charged with felon in possession of a firearm. Some of these defendants, if convicted, will face up to 20 years in prison or five to 40 years in prison. Some will face from ten years to life in prison," said Jamie Esparza, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Texas. "Others will have to serve a minimum of 15 years."

"The goal of this investigation is to impact violent crime in El Paso. While every agency here has its own roles, priorities and responsibilities. Fighting violent crime is the responsibility we all share," said Britton Boyd, FBI Acting Special Agent in Charge, El Paso.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- FBI is conducting authorized court warrants in parts of west El Paso, according to an FBI spokesperson.

Law enforcement activity was reported on the 600 block of Westway Blvd. and Lakehurst Rd.,Thursday morning.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- An overturned semi-trailer is blocking east and westbound lanes on I-10 in Central El Paso.

According to fire dispatch, the call of the crash came after 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

It's happening between Paisano Dr. and Chelsea St.

Fortunately, no injuries are being reported.

Roads have been reduced to one lane in both directions, according to El Paso Police.

Crews are working to clear the semi-trailer from the interstate.

DHS sent the following statement updating their progress on the ongoing investigation.

"On Aug. 22, 2024, the El Paso Independent School District Police (EPISD) requested assistance from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Texas Rangers to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred outside the Franklin High School Magnet Center.

This investigation is active and ongoing and no further information is currently available. Once complete, the case will be referred to the El Paso County District Attorney."

Update: EPISD Police said there were some, cross-country students that were on campus at that time of the shooting.

ABC-7 spoke with team member, Sienna Zarate who said before their usual run they started with workouts on the field. That's when she heard two shots ring out. 

"At that moment, my coach recognized that it was a gunshot, and he told all of us to go into our locker room," said Zarate. "For me, there wasn't an initial panic that set in, but when we were going to the locker room, people started running. So of course some people had some panic."

Lights off and locked inside the locker room for safety, she said she was happy with how things played out and said things could have gone differently. 

"I thought given the situation, my coach handled it very, very well, like he was immediately concerned with our safety," she said.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- A man in his 50s is dead following a shooting involving school district police officer at Franklin High School.

El Paso Independent School District officials say that the officer was investigating an incident, Thursday morning.

They also state that the incident does not involve any students.

Classes at Franklin have been canceled for the remainder of the day.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- A 43-year-old Juarez woman was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for recruiting for a Mexican drug trafficking organization.

Karla Adriana Votta-Cardenas is said to have worked for a drug trafficking organization that is allegedly led by Jorge Sanchez-Morales.

Court documents state, the organization primarily trafficked methamphetamine in liquid form from Ciudad Juarez to El Paso.

Later, it was transported to Atlanta, Georgia concealed in fuel tanks of semi tractors. The liquid methamphetamine was then converted to crystal form and distributed.

Documents also state that Sanchez-Morales supervised the operation on behalf of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).

Votta-Cardenas is said to have served as a large scale recruiter. Recruiting drivers through social media ads.

They say she recruited more than 20 drivers using social media, also concealed the fact that they were trafficking drugs.

Votta-Cardenas was arrested by Mexican authorities and extradited to the U.S. on November 1, 2023.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration is recognizing Wednesday, August 21 as National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day.

Currently more than 5,000 photos of people whose lives were lost to fentanyl are being displayed at DEA headquarters in Arlington, Virginia.

The exhibit is called "Faces of Fentanyl."

DEA says that education and prevention are crucial in the administration's mission to combat the fight against fentanyl.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- One person is recovering after being rescued from the canal near the Border Highway, Friday morning.

According to fire dispatch, the call came in just after 3:30 a.m.

Crews responded to Cesar E. Chavez Border Hwy at Midway.

At around 5:30 a.m. it was reported that the person had been located and successfully rescued.

In an X post, El Paso Fire says was the person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Our ABC-7 crew reported that Border Patrol, Texas Troopers and El Paso Police also were at the scene.

No word yet, if the person was a migrant.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- One person is recovering in the hospital after being seriously injured in a motorcycle crash late Wednesday night. Eastbound lanes on Transmountain Rd. were closed for hours Thursday morning but have since reopened.

According to a post on x.com (formerly Twitter) from El Paso Police Traffic, the crash happened Transmountain/Loop 375 East at Mile Marker 19.

An El Paso Fire Department emergency dispatcher told ABC-7 the call came in around 11:30 p.m, and that one person was taken to University Medical Center.

El Paso Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation into the cause of the crash. According to a release, special traffic investigators from the sheriff's office were dispatched at 12:40 a.m. to mile marker 19 Loop 375 in reference to a single motorcycle crash with serious injuries. Their investigation so far shows the driver of the motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Loop 375.

ABC-7 crews on the scene saw deputies were also focusing their attention to a pickup truck nearby. The sheriff's office has not said if it was also involved in the crash.

The crash happened on the eastbound lanes of I-10 between Mesa St. and Resler Dr.

El Paso Fire dispatch did confirm that one person sustained serious injuries.

They also tell ABC-7 that the call of the crash came in minutes after 3 a.m.

Sunland Park, N.M. (KVIA) -- A man is in serious but stable condition after having both legs amputated after possibly being struck by a train, according to Sunland Park Fire Chief Danny Medrano.

They're 'X' account says they were called out before 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

Update (July 8, 2024): El Paso Police Department Special Traffic investigators say 17-year-old Joseph Flores Jr. was driving "at a high rate of speed" west on the 13000 block of Montana when he lost control and hit a curb, rolling his car into a large pole. Flores died at the scene.

Investigators say speed may have been a contributing factor in the crash.

This is the 35th traffic fatality of 2024, compared to 39 this time last year.

Update: El Paso Police identify the woman accused of stealing the ambulance as 28-year-old Alasia Pamela Humber. She is charged with theft of a vehicle and evading arrest or detention with a motor vehicle. Her combined bonds totaled $130,000.

The El Paso Police Auto Theft Task Force was called out to investigate after police say Humber walked out of the hospital and took the ambulance, which was waiting in a bay.

Officers tried to stop Humber, but were unable to. She eventually crashed into a low rock wall and was taken into custody.

Update: EPFD officials say the department allows ambulances to be left unattended, provided that all doors and compartments are locked and the secure-idle system is engaged.

"The EPFD fleet is insured," a spokesperson said Tuesday afternoon. "The City may seek compensation, but that would come after the investigation is completed."

The department is still evaluating the damage to the ambulances.

Update: El Paso Fire officials say the ambulance was taken at 8:00 AM from the Del Sol ER. No one was injured and EPFD is currently assessing the damage to the ambulance.

The situation is still under investigation by law enforcement, EPFD officials say.

According to police dispatch, they say multiple law enforcement agencies were in pursuit of a stolen ambulance.

The pursuit came to an end on Gateway North and Altura Ave.

They say the first body was recovered off of Highway 9. The second body recovered off of Strauss Rd.

The Office of the Medical Investigator and Doña Ana County Sheriff's Office are conducting an investigation. A fire department spokesperson says it appears as though the bodies had been out for at least a day.

At the same time, another Sunland Park Fire crew helped a man who was seriously injured falling off the border wall on Anapra Road near Posey Road. They helped the man, identified only as being in his 40s, to the trauma center.

Sunland Park Fire Department posted on 'X,' saying a man in his 20's suffered injuries to both his life.

They responded to the end of Anapra Rd. near Posey Rd.

He was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The photos posted by the department show Border Patrol also at the scene.

They have not said if the man was a migrant.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- At least 20 Central El Paso residents have been evacuated after a sinkhole opens up following a water main break.

It was first reported Tuesday night at the 3700 block of Tularosa Ave.

They say the Red Cross will assist those who have been impacted by the incident.

Our ABC-7 crews have reported a car is still inside the sinkhole.

A spokesperson for El Paso Water says crews are working diligently to make repairs to the line.

They also state that surrounding homes still have running water.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- El Paso cooling centers have been activated as triple-digit temperatures are expect to hit the borderland.

City of El Paso and Office of Emergency Management (OEM) will open the centers for Wednesday, June 5 through Friday, June 7.

Both are working together to help the community, especially senior members, in order for them to avoid heat-related illnesses.

The centers will provide an air conditioned environment for residents to stay cool throughout the hot day.

They say it's a collaboration between OEM, Parks and Recreation, Public Libraries and the Extreme Weather Task Force.

The following free cooling centers are available from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.:

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KVIA) -- The city of Las Cruces has selected J.C. Borrego as the new Assistant City Manager.

This comes after Ikani Taumoepeau was appointed City Manager for the city back in April.

He'll begin his new role on June 16,2024.

Borrego is said to have served the as the city's Assistant Director of Human Resources. There he led the Classification and Compensation program, Benefits program, and HR Analyst team.

“I am happy to have J.C. join the City Manager's Office Team. He has only been with the City for a short time, but in that time he has made a real impact for employees and supported major City initiatives such as implementing a City-wide Class and Compensation review. We were lucky to have many qualified internal candidates, but J.C.’s diverse leadership experience across multiple operations in the State set him apart. I look forward to working with him more closely and serving our community, Adelante con Cariño!” said City Manager Ikani Taumoepeau.

Lincoln County, NM (KVIA) -- Blue 2 Fire now burning over 7,000 acres with 0% containment Tuesday.

Evacuation orders are in effect for Nogal Canyon Rd., Loma Grande Subdivision, Bonito Lake Rd., Forest Service Road 108, Forest Service 107, Villa Madonna Subdivision, Forest Road 127 (also known as Upper Eagle Creek).

Over the weekend, the fire doubled in size going from 1,400 acres on Friday, May 24 to 7,178 acres Tuesday, May 28.

On Memorial Day, fire crews completed a line around Villa Madonna, according to the Blue 2 Fire Facebook.

"Engines in Sun Valley are planning to connect hose lines. Hotshots have been going direct, building line on the fire’s edge from Monjeau Peak east where they can safely access. Single engine air tankers dropped retardant above Eagle Creek to assist this effort, says the post. "On Soldier Mountain, hotshot crews and dozers are constructing direct line on the west side of a spot fire that started overnight on Saturday. On the east side of the spot hotshots are also building direct line, reinforcing the retardant line, and cooling down the fire’s edge with aerial assets. All the structures in Mills Canyon are prepped."

The fire began on Thursday, May 16 after a lighting strike, according to Village of Ruidoso.

They say 11 crews, 23 engines, 4 helicopters and 2 bulldozers are being used.

Lincoln County, NM (KVIA) -- Blue 2 Fire has grown from 700 acres to an estimated 1,400 acres as of Friday morning.

Mandatory evacuations are underway as the Blue 2 Fire continues to spread with no containment.

According to Lincoln County Fire Service Facebook, evacuated areas include Bonito Lake Road, Forest Service Road 108 and Forest Service Road 107.

Villa Madonna Subdivision, Sierra Vista Subdivision and Sun Valley Subdivision have been placed on a "Standby to Evacuate" mode on the west side of NM HWY 48, according to their Facebook.

They say this is not an evacuation notice at the moment.

A meeting to discuss the fire will take place Friday, May 24, 2024 at the Eastern New Mexico University-Ruidoso Branch Community College at 709 Mechem Dr. Ruidoso, NM at 7 p.m.

An evacuation center has been set up at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds located at 101 5th St. Capitan, New Mexico.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Maria O'Toole Corey recently had her ode to her old stethoscope recognized by the American Nurse Journal.

O'Toole says that one day while watching TV she felt inspired to write about her old stethoscope.

The article highlights the history she had with her old stethoscope and everything they have been through. In it, she recalls how her first stethoscope gifted by her father was stolen.

When she replaced it, she says she vowed to keep it close to her at all times.

O'Toole says what inspired her to become a nurse was her mother. From a young age she took care of her mother who suffered from severe mental illness and epilepsy.

But, nursing runs in the family. She recalls that one of her aunt's was a World War II nurse. O'Toole's sisters and nieces are also in the medical field.

After caring for patients for over 40 years, she went on to worked at the Department of Veteran Affairs and retired.

But she felt her work didn't stop there. She began teaching nursing part-time at El Paso Community College. In 2023, she took on the role of Assistant Professor.

"We are really working hard to bring new nurses into the field and we share our experiences," says O'Toole. "Some of the senior nurses are seasoned nurses who share their experiences with new nurses for the next generation. Because that's the generation that will take care of me."

She hopes that more students will consider nursing as a career path, as they are currently undergoing a shortage.

O'Toole reminds students not to do it for the money but the motivator should be caring for patients in need.

Douglas Briggs a former marine is now a holistic health and fitness program director for the U.S. Army at Fort Bliss.

In an interview with Mr. Health & Fitness, Briggs goes on to say that he was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease as a result of tainted water at Camp Lejuene and staying fit has helped him.

Natassia Paloma is a former news anchor for the El Paso area. She is currently 1st place in the Ms. Heath & Fitness.

Paloma tells Health & Fitness that working out has helped her through post-partum.

If both contestants are chosen as the winner they will also win $20,000 to a charity of their choice.

Update: El Paso County Sheriff's Office officials say that the pedestrian, 54-year-old Martin Ayala, has died.

The driver of the commercial vehicle was not injured and no criminal charges are pending at this time.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- A pedestrian is suffering from serious injuries after being hit by a commercial vehicle in Far East El Paso.

According to El Paso County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called out to 14000 block of Montana Ave.

The call came in around 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

Special Traffic Investigators have been called out to investigate.

Eastbound traffic on Montana Ave. is being rerouted from Krag St. to Buntline.

SOCORRO, Texas (KVIA) -- A man has been arrested following a SWAT incident in Socorro.

It happened on the 9800 block of Alameda Ave. at the Maravilla Mobile Home Park, Tuesday night.

According to police dispatch, they say the call came in as a domestic dispute that escalated to a man barricading himself inside a home.

SWAT was called out the area just before 1:30 Wednesday morning. Police say the man was taken into custody without incident at 2:46 a.m.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- On April 25, The U.S. National Science Foundation instructed the University of Texas, El Paso to suspend work on the Regional Innovation Engine and Aerospace Center pending further review.

In a statement released by the university, "On or about April 6, UTEP became aware of potentially incorrect statements in its proposal to the National Science Foundation for the Regional Innovation Engine Program. UTEP conducted a review and found that the statements in question committed resources to the NSF grant that UTEP does not have. We have sent a letter today (May 6) informing the NSF of these erroneous claims."

In January, UTEP won the inaugural NSF Regional Innovation Engines award for up to $15 million dollars over the next two years, according to the university's website.

They say, they could have received up to $160 million dollars in over 10-years and would have supported the Paso del Norte Defense and Aerospace Innovation Engine, greatly impacting the borderland community.

According to El Paso Matters, The award was granted on the proposal from Dr. Ahsan Choudhuri, Ph.D., UTEP's associate vice president, who lead the Aerospace Center.

Since the announcement of the suspension of the grant, borderland leaders have expressed their concerns.

“Dr. Choudhuri and Dr. Wicker have played pivotal roles in advancing UTEP's Aerospace Center. Their vision has propelled Far West Texas into an era of ambitious growth, positioning us as a competitive force in the aerospace, defense, and advanced manufacturing industry. We will continue our collaboration with UTEP and local partners to ensure the Aerospace Center continues to build economic opportunities and a brighter future for the students, workers, and communities of Far West Texas,” says Texas Senator César Blanco.

“Over a decade ago, our community united to focus our economic development efforts on aerospace and defense manufacturing, aiming to raise wages, retain talent, and foster job creation, ultimately positioning El Paso as a national leader in these industries," said Congresswoman Veronica Escobar. "At the heart of this vision stands Dr. Ashan Choudhuri, whose leadership has transformed what was once a dream into a tangible reality, unfolding daily before us."

El Paso mayor, Oscar Leeser saying how this could have benefited the community, "The City of El Paso―as well as the County and many others in the community―are heavily invested in this partnership, which has the potential to positively impact the economic landscape for El Paso and surrounding communities for the future. I am surprised that a decision of this magnitude in a collaborative partnership would be taken without notification or discussion with relevant partners, and I look forward to working with UTEP to resolve any issues. In the statement released by UTEP they did not mention Dr. Ahsan Choudhuri but the university did say that effective immediately, Dr. Kenneth Meissner, Dean of the College of Engineering, will serve as acting head for the center.

Update: El Paso Police say that 28-year-old Alexis Rivera was traveling north on Enchanted Pass when he lost control. His motorcycle hit the curb, a barricade, and a sign. He was thrown off the motorcycle and died at the scene. Police say that Rivera was not wearing a helmet when he crashed.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KVIA) -- A Las Cruces man has been arrested for allegedly possessing child pornography.

42-year-old Jacob Wayne Gill has been charged with one felony count of sexual exploitation of a child.

An investigation was launched by Las Cruces Police, Homeland Security Investigators and FBI after they suspected him of possessing child pornography.

Officials believe there might be victims that reside locally.

Eight cyber-tips over a time frame of six-months is what led investigators to Gill. They say child pornography was uploaded on an cloud-based storage belonging to the suspect.

They say they were able to confirm the storage system was owned and operated by Gill.

Investigators ask if anyone has reason to believe a child may have been of victim to call (575) 526-0795.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Franklin High School's mariachi band took the stage over the weekend to play along side Mexican singer Yuri.

The songstress played at the El Paso County Coliseum on Saturday, April 27 as a part of her Eurofia U.S. Tour.

The high school's mariachi band is coming off a successful performance at the 2024 UIL State Mariachi Festival, where they got the top honor, according to El Paso I.S.D officials.

They also received a "Superior" rating and a first division trophy.

SOCORRO, Texas (KVIA) -- A Socorro man was arrested after being wanted on six felony warrants.

On Monday, Precinct Six Deputy Constables say they were informed about a wanted suspect at the 800 block of Eligio Rd. in Socorro.

41-year-old Christian Rodriguez arrested and taken into custody.

Rodriguez was wanted on three felony counts of online solicitation of a minor sexual conduct.

Officials say he has, One felony count of tamper/fabricate physical evidence with intent to impair.

One count of possession of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1B over 1 Gram less than 4 grams.

One count possession of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1B (METH) Over 1 Gram Less than 4 Grams.

Rodriguez was taken to the El Paso County Detention Facility under a $154,143 dollar bond.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- An additional meeting is needed, this time with the Federal Highway Administration to move forward with the Pellicano Widening Project, according to Camino Real Regional Mobility Authority officials.

On Monday, County Commissioners received an update from C.R.R.M.A executive director Raymond Telles. He told commissioners that on Thursday, April 25 they met with the Texas Department of Transportation and said the meeting "somewhat productive." Telles said that TXDOT needs input from FHWA to move forward.

He later informed commissioners that the additional meeting is needed with FHWA since federal funding is being used.

Precinct 1 Commissioner Carlos Leon informed Telles that the public is awaiting positive news.

The project has been stalled for nearly two-years since the contractor hired filed for bankruptcy.

The project was supposed to expand Pellicano Dr. from Loop 375 to Darrington Rd. to a six lane street.

"This is a very long and complicated and complex issue. There's not going to be a fix in the near term. I think it's important that you hear it and that the public hears it," says Telles.

"I'm just voicing what the public is telling us. Extremely disappointing. Extremely, uh, we get to a point there might be some hope but its dashed," says commissioner Leon.

Telles told commissioners it is a long process forward for the project. He says despite being almost in the same place two years ago that progress has been made from the litigation stand-point.

Telles confirmed a hearing is expected this summer from the bankruptcy side.

Assistant county attorney informed commissioners that outside legal counsel for county commissioners was present at the meeting with TXDOT.

Commissioners were brief by outside counsel during executive session Mitch Moss.

No word on when C.R.R.M.A will meet with FHWA.

Update: Police are identifying the victim as 32-year-old Pedro Negrete. Special Traffic Investigators say that Negrete was traveling at a high rate of speed west on I-10 when he veered right into the center median, striking a wrong way traffic sign pole. His car kept going west in the center median until he hit another sign pole. The car then started moving north west, then came to a rest in the middle lanes of the 11000 block of Gateway West, according to police officials.

Negrete was partially thrown from his car and suffered serious injuries before dying at the scene. Police say that speed contributed to this crash.

This is the 18th traffic fatality of the year, compared to 20 this time last year.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- A man is dead after a single-vehicle crash in east El Paso, early Monday morning.

First responders say the call came in around 2:20 a.m.

The crash happened on Gateway West near Zaragoza Rd.

SANTA FE, N.M. (KVIA) -- 'Rust' armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was processed this morning by the New Mexico Corrections Department, according to Public Information Officer Brittany Roembach.

On March 6, she was found guilty by a New Mexico jury on one count of involuntary manslaughter for the deadly on-set shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in Oct. 2021.

She was acquitted on a separate charge of tampering with evidence.

On April 15, Gutierrez-Reed was sentenced to 18 months in prison.

Actor Alec Baldwin has also been charged with involuntary manslaughter with his trial scheduled for July.

Baldwin's legal team has filed a motion to dismiss the indictment.

New Mexico Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer is considering the motion.

“The Fort Bliss Directorate of Emergency Services and El Paso Police Department are investigating the death of a 1st Armored Division Soldier due to an apparent motorcycle accident near the Master Sgt. Pena Gate. The Soldier’s name will not be released until their next of kin has been notified. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Soldier’s family and unit during this difficult time.”

AUSTIN, Texas (KVIA) -- Texas Department of Public Safety is recognizing Lieutenant Daniel Martinez, Special Agent Carlos Molina, both from El Paso and Special Agent Benjamin Crowley from Midland for their heroic actions in Nov. 2023.

The department says that while conducting knock and talks at a motel in an attempt to locate human smuggling stash house, they heard cries from a nearby room.

Once they arrived, they noticed a man inside the bathroom who had is said to have overdosed on fentanyl.

It was then they began to perform lifesaving measures. They say that is when the man's pulse returned and was taken to a hospital.

The department is recognizing their heroic response. Lieutenant Martinez, Special Agents Crowley and Molina received the Lifesaving Award.

EL PASO, TX (KVIA) -- One person is dead following a crash on I-10 near Copia, according to El Paso Police.

The crash has closed all eastbound lanes on I-10 as Special Traffic Investigators conduct their investigation.

Police say the call came in just before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. They say the crash involved a vehicle and a motorcycle.

It was first reported that one person suffered serious injuries but police dispatch says the person has died as a result of the crash.

All lanes have reopened.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- On Monday, the Socorro ISD Board of Trustees appointed Deputy Superintendent James Vasquez as Interim Superintendent.

It comes at a time the district faces an over $30-million-dollar deficit, conservatorship by the Texas Education Agency and Superintendent Nate Carman was placed on paid administrative leave.

The discussion to appoint Vasquez was made during executive session. During a vote, board members Ricardo O. Castellano and Pablo Barrera voted against the motion.

"Based on concerns that I addressed during executive, I don't feel its an appropriate move for the district at this time," said board member Castellano.

Board President Michael Najera will discuss terms of the position and will be brought up and signed in the next board meeting.

It will happen Tuesday, April 9th, at Oz Glaze Senior Center located at 13969 Veny Webb St., Horizon City from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event is free and will have glucose and blood pressure checks, as well as, a yoga class that will be followed by a tea tasting.

Molina officials say information and resources on how to reduce stress and sustain a healthy lifestyle will be available.

Fire dispatch says that two-people were taken to the hospital. One with serious injuries, the other with minor injuries.

LAS CRUCES, NM (KVIA) -- A $1,000 dollar reward is being offered by Crime Stoppers of Las Cruces-Doña Ana County for information in identifying a person of interest in a shooting that left one man dead on February 15th.

ABC-7 previously reported the shooting that happened on 900 block of Graham St.

Police say that a the person of interest arrived at the home on Graham St. early Thursday, Feb. 15th as a passenger of a dark-blue Cadillac.

Investigators identified the driver of the vehicle as 29-year-old Jose "Joey" Antonio Juarez III.

They say that Juarez and the passenger got into a dispute with the 34-year-old man who was at the home.

During the argument, investigators say that at least one round was fired, striking Juarez who died at the scene.

They say the passenger of the Cadillac fled on foot. Surveillance captured images.

The 34-year-old man left to Mountain View Regional Medical Center with to be treated for his non-life threatening injuries.

Police believe that Juarez and the passenger were friends.
