Son charged with his dad’s violent murder to go on trial in March
Update (August 7, 2024): Jail records show Gallegos remains in jail on a $200,000 bond.
Court records show that he is scheduled to enter a plea on August 29, 2024. The jury trial is currently scheduled for March 17, 2025 at 9:00 AM.
Update: ABC-7 obtained new court documents that state Angel stabbed Alberto with a kitchen knife that had been laying in the sink.
Two people inside the house witnessed the alleged murder and provided statements to police. They are both recorded as telling police they saw Angel stab Alberto.
The argument that started the physical fight was over Angel's decision to invite some people over to the family's home, according to court documents.
Update: El Paso Police charged 28-year-old Angel Javier Gallegos with murder in the death of his father, 55-year-old Alberto Javier Gallegos.
Police revised previous information, saying that the alleged murder happened on the 3500 block of East Yandell. The elder Gallegos died at University Medical Center from his injuries, according to El Paso Police.
Investigators believe the murder started with a domestic dispute that escalated into a physical fight. Police detained the younger Gallegos at the scene and charge him with murder. They booked him into to the El Paso County Detention Facility on a $250,000 bond.
A El Paso Police Department spokesperson says this is the 31st murder in El Paso this year, compared to 21 this time last year.
Update: El Paso Police say a 55-year-old man was stabbed as a result of a family fight that happened early this morning in Central El Paso. He was transported to a hospital and later died. Police officials responded to the call at 3:40 A.M. and have detained a 28-year-old man. Crimes Against Persons detectives are currently investigating.
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- El Paso Police say one man was killed Saturday morning, and his death is being labelled as a homicide.
It took place at the 3600 block of Yandell Drive. That's near the Mount Sinai Cemetery.
Police say they have one man in custody at this time, and that Crimes Against Persons (CAP) is investigating.
