Do-Gooder: Retired El Paso teacher offers safe haven for animals that have endured hardshipsÂ
El Paso, TX (KVIA)- Volunteering can give you new life skills and experiences that could help you discover a new passion. And that's precisely what happened with Tina Ramirez, a retired teacher from northeast El Paso who felt it was necessary to give back to the El Paso community by volunteering. Tina says she She was often questioned about volunteering at the El Paso Humane Society. She said " at the beginning, people would say, don't you want to take them home?" She explained that the El Paso Humane Society is a no-kill shelter, and she is confident that the animals will find their forever home.
Ramirez advocates for the El Paso Humane Society's animals, but she has a history of helping others. After teaching students at Fannin Elementary School in northeast El Paso for 27 years, which she considers to be her best years ever, she decided to try to give back to the El Paso community in a different way. Ramirez and her family started volunteering for other organizations in the El Paso Community. She has volunteered at the Annunciation House by providing clothing and food for migrants. She has volunteered her time by passing out food at the El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank.
She is also the Humane Society Adoption Counselor; she attends offsite adoption events, hoping to find forever homes for shelter dogs. Tina explained, "Working with dogs, any kind of volunteering, it's so good for your mental health."
Tina and her twin sister, Susan Barron , also go above and beyond by organizing for the Humane Society and spending time and money. The staff at the Humane Society say that she is a Do-Gooder in the eyes of all who know her.
