Sunday Funday: An El Paso entrepreneur’s journey
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- In honor of women's history month, ABC-7 is showcasing some of the amazing stories around the Borderland.
This woman's journey to success began like many others, after earning her degree.
Imagine graduating from college, working in your field only to realize, it's not for you.
That is how El Pasoan Mel Maese Goldberg first set out for her slice of happiness.
This story is this week's Sunday Funday moment, brought to you by Sarah Farms.
"I remember telling my parents, I have this idea to open a restaurant and my Mom was like, what, you don't even know how to make pizza, what are you talking about, and I said I know, I know, but I know I will learn. You make a lot of mistakes but there was no failure for options, like, it was not an option."
It's the Pizza Joint and Mel is still hands-on in the kitchen, making sure every ingredient is in there, including love.
"I got my first location and literally had to open within six weeks because I only had six weeks until I really had to start making money because everything was gone. One of the reasons it worked so quickly is because I did not have time to doubt myself in the beginning."
After 13 years, that dedication has turned into a successful business with three locations and 45 workers.
"We have a lot of people from out of town especially military, that are from the east coast, they come in and they say hey, you guys have great pizza, it reminds me of back home, that's also pretty cool too."
Mel let us put her pizza to the test, and it was delicious.
