Heriberto Perez Lara, Juarez correspondent
Heriberto is a multimedia journalist who also reports from our sister city, Juarez. Previously, he used to edit and report for GMEP Weekend newscasts.
Heri joined the ABC-7 team as an intern in the summer of 2021, right after graduating college. After two months as an intern, he officially joined the station as a photographer/editor.
Born and raised in the Borderland, Heriberto started his education in Juarez and studied there through high school.
After graduating high school in 2016, he attended EPCC and two years later, he transferred to the University of Texas at El Paso to complete his Bachelor's Degree in Multimedia Journalism with a minor in Marketing.
While at UTEP, he started at The Prospector, the assayer of student opinion, as the newspaper's sports reporter. After a year in that position, Heri proudly graduated UTEP cum laude in 2021 before starting as an intern at KVIA.
Heri's last year at UTEP featured his passion for sports at The Prospector and in journalism after being selected as the president of UTEP's NAHJ chapter.
Heri's main goal is to report, inform and help the El Paso and Las Cruces communities to know more about the latest situations and breakthroughs that happen south of the border. Besides Juarez being our sister city, there are things that might not be known or reported on this side of the border; Heri wants to bring those stories to ABC-7 viewers.
Even though Heri mainly covers Juarez, you can reach out to him anytime with any story ideas. He will be happy to speak to you.
