Woman’s skull fractured, El Paso man arrested

Update (September 4, 2024): El Paso Police arrested Payne and charged him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon before booking him into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a $150,000 bond.

The investigation into the alleged attack is still ongoing, according to El Paso Police. The Crimes Against Persons Unit is taking the lead on the investigation.

Police identify the victim as 37-year-old Jennifer Lynn Lambert.

Update: Marcus Anthony Payne is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The assault was domestic in nature.

Court documents obtained by ABC-7 disclose the victim's relationship to Payne.

Payne's mother told officers who responded to the domestic dispute that her son suffered from mental health issues. Court documents state that Payne told officers after the alleged assault that he had fought a "witch" with two swords.

The victim suffered numerous lacerations, a fractured skull, and a severed finger.


EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Emergency crews rushed a woman suffering from serious injuries to the hospital this morning.

Police officers found her on the 330 block of Tierra Mission in Far East El Paso at 6:13 this morning. They had been called out to the residential area on a welfare check, officials say.

Police have not yet identified the woman, describing her only as being in her "upper thirties."

One person is in custody at this time, police officials tell ABC-7.
